Dogs and Cats Are Family

Animals are living, feeling beings. They should never be treated as property, tools, or worse—victims of human cruelty.
Yet, in Taiwan today, the laws protecting animals remain weak. Penalties for abuse are too light, and enforcement is difficult. This has led to many animals being mistreated, even tortured, without any real protection or justice.
🐶 The Dog in This Photo Is Real—And I Saw Her Myself
The dog in the photo is a 7-year-old Pomeranian I personally saw rescued from a puppy mill. For seven long years, she was locked in a tiny cage, forced to breed over and over again. Her body was drained, her spirit broken. To stop her from barking—because it was “bad for business”—her vocal cords were cut.
When she was finally rescued, her lower body was nearly paralyzed. She could no longer walk properly.
She was never loved, never held. She lived only to produce more puppies—just so someone could buy a “cute dog.”
How can such cruelty still happen in our society?
🚨 Taiwan's Animal Laws Are Still Far from Enough
Yes, we have animal protection laws—but they are far from enough:
Even in cases of death, penalties for abuse are often just small fines.
Government agencies lack the manpower and tools for real investigations.
Illegal breeding and underground sales often go unchecked.
Many abusers walk free, while the animals they harmed are left broken or dead.
We cannot allow this to continue. Weak punishment only fuels more abuse. We need laws that truly protect animals—not just in theory, but in action.
✊ What We Demand Is Change
We don’t just want sympathy—we need real, structural change.
We call on the government and society to:
Strengthen penalties for animal abuse, especially in severe or fatal cases.
Create dedicated investigation teams for animal cruelty cases and illegal breeders.
Integrate animal welfare education into schools and communities, teaching respect for life from a young age.
Establish a public platform for tracking major abuse cases to ensure transparency and accountability.
